Stamps Aren’t Cool Episode 4: We’re back… with our first mailbag!

I’ve talked a big game lately about the impending return of Stamps Aren’t Cool, the stamp collecting podcast that I host with my (non-collector) wife, Celeste.

It’s not that it went away, it just took me waaaay too long to edit the next few episodes.

Well, enough talk. We’re back!

In this episode, filmed last year, we read some of the comments that our listeners and readers had been kind enough to leave for us. It’s a cheeky way to make a return after a year’s absence, but I found that it served as a neat reminder of what had happened previously on Stamps Aren’t Cool. And in one case, a comment called for a whole new segment!

I’ll leave the apologies and explanations there, because if you’re reading this, then it probably means you’ve either listened to the podcast, or you’ve watched it on YouTube, or, hopefully, you’re about to.

I will share with you that, looking back, there was one comment that I wish I’d addressed a little more. But I’m sure it’s a topic that will come up again. Maybe immediately after people see this episode!

But without further ado… here it is!

HERE BE SPOILERS!

As per tradition, I’ll add images on these companion posts for anyone who didn’t watch the YouTube video and wants to see the stamps we’re talking about.

In Episode 4, the only really necessary visuals concern my humble correction. It turns out that these 1955 Castles stamps were not the first commemorative issue by the UK under the brand new reign of Queen Elizabeth. And frankly, I don’t know what I was thinking.

1a UK 1955 Castles stamp set

No, they were high-value definitives, which means they stuck around for years not commemorating anything in particular. The first QEII definitive issue was the 1953 Coronation set:

Thanks to Stamps Aren’t Cool viewer Larry for the correction!
